Community Spotlight | Digicomm 360
At Digicomm 360, our Community Spotlight series is all about recognising the organisations that quietly make a huge difference in people’s lives.
This time, we’re proud to feature The Bereavement Café. A compassionate, community-led initiative supporting people through grief and loss.

We spoke with Jane Dixon the Founder of The Bereavement Café to understand the heart behind what they do and why their work matters so much.
What Is The Bereavement Café?
The Bereavement Café provides informal, safe and supportive spaces for people who are grieving.
Through regular café-style meet-ups, they bring people together who have experienced loss, offering a place where individuals can talk openly, share experiences, or simply sit with others who understand.
There’s no pressure, no expectations, and no judgment, just a warm, welcoming environment where people can feel less alone.
How They Support People Through Grief
Grief affects everyone differently, and The Bereavement Café recognises that there is no “right” way to process loss.
Their approach is centred around:
- Peer support rather than clinical counselling
- Creating safe, relaxed environments to talk
- Encouraging open conversations about grief
- Helping people feel heard, understood and supported
Sometimes, just being in a room with others who “get it” can make all the difference.
Why Spaces Like This Are So Important
Grief can often feel isolating. Even with supportive friends and family, it can be difficult to express how you’re really feeling.
The Bereavement Café helps to bridge that gap.
By normalising conversations around loss and creating dedicated spaces for connection, they help people:
- Feel less alone in their grief
- Share their experiences without judgment
- Build supportive connections with others
- Take small but meaningful steps forward
It’s not about “fixing” grief, it’s about walking alongside people through it.
A Community Built on Compassion
What makes The Bereavement Café so special is its simplicity.
There are no formal structures or clinical settings, just people coming together, offering kindness, understanding and time.
It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most powerful support comes from simply being present and listening.
How You Can Get Involved
If you or someone you know is experiencing grief, The Bereavement Café offers a welcoming place to connect with others.
